Phase 4 - Verification and Closure

In general Phase 4 Verification and Closure is the final stage in a contaminated land site investigation providing an end to the process, although may include an interim period of ongoing monitoring in some cases. The main aim is to confirm that the measures employed as part of the remediation strategy have successfully mitigated the risks identified to satisfactory levels.
This phase of the works typically involves:-

  • Visits to the site by an environmental engineer to monitor and document the remediation process
  • Details of the techniques employed
  • Details of materials removed from site, destinations, volumes etc.
  • Results of on-site testing (e.g. in-situ VOC measurements using a PID etc.)
  • Results of laboratory validation testing
  • Photographic evidence
  • Production of a Verification and Closure Report

The Verification and Closure Report is submitted to the regulatory authorities, the Environment Agency, Local Authority, NHBC etc. for approval. This approval is required in order to ‘sign-off’ planning conditions, to obtain warranty for the development etc. and is therefore essential that the correct process and procedures have been followed.

At TGEN our consultants have a wealth of experience in seeing projects through from inception to validation and regulatory sign-off.

Throughout the process from Phase1 through to Phase 4 our aim is to provide solutions to the challenges posed by contaminated land to our clients in a sustainable, cost effective manner, ensuring timely project success.
